The Friends of The Mennonite Centre in Ukraine have acquired and are maintaining a historic former Mennonite Women's School building in Molochansk/Halbstadt, Ukraine. The building will serve as a vehicle for humanitarian services which are community based, provided without discrimination, foster local initiative, and are sustainable, while interpreting and commemorating the Mennonite past.

The Mennonites first went to southern Ukraine in the early 1800's. They suffered the same horrors under communism as did many of the other people in Ukraine, especially rural Ukraine. Through the years many of them left and went to Canada and the USA.
