On Occasion of the 11th Anniversary of Ukrainian Independence

An honorable opening of the memorial to Taras Shevchenko took place in Georgian Poti city on occasion of 11th anniversary of Ukrainian Independence on August 24.

As UNIAN has learnt from the press-service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the memorial was built on the initiative of Poti city administration and Consulate Agency of Ukraine.

The local authorities, the officials of the Embassy of Ukraine to Georgia and the Consulate Agancy in Poti city, the representatives of Ukrainian Diaspora in Georgia took part in the ceremony.

Speaking in public, Ambassador of Ukraine to Georgia S.Volkovetsky thanked Poti inhabitants and all friendly Georgian people for building of the monument to the great son of Ukraine. In addition, he reported that the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Arts made a decision to award with diplomas Mayor of Poti city D.Kantariya and sculptor - the author of the Memorial to Kobzar - B. Papaskua.
