 Oleksander Ivakhnenko is a Ukrainian artist who features in his paintings the spirit of Ukraine culture, history and folk life. His style is unique and easily recognizable when you see a painting by Oleksander. Two of his paintings are featured on the ArtUkraine.com home page. Oleksander's roots and interests go deep into Ukrainian history and he features the best there is about the Ukrainian spirit.

Oleksander was born on October 16, 1949, in the village of Manzhosivka, Pryluky raion, Chernihiv oblast. He graduated from Kyiv State Institute of Art majoring in the Book Design Department, (1968-1974). From 1976 to 1979 he continued his study at the Art Studios of the Academy of Arts in Kyiv. His teacher there was the famous Ukrainian artist Mykhailo Derehus.

Artwork and illustrations for books has been a major interest for Oleksander and he has painted illustrations for many books including, "Enchanted Desne" by Oleksander Dovzhenko (1975), a famous Ukrainian novel by a very outstanding Ukrainian writer and producer. He produced the artwork also for "Cherry Orchard By The House" by Taras Shevchenko (1982 Edition); "Poems" by Taras Shevchenko (1984 Edition); "Kobzar" by Taras Shevchenko (1988 edition, two volumes), and "Duel" by Oleksander Kuprin (1981 Edition).

Oleksander was awarded the outstanding opportunity to paint a series of historic monumental wall-paintings at the Taras Shevchenko Museum in Kanev. He worked on this major project during 1989 to 1991. During his career as an artist he has participated in many national and international art exhibitions. He painting are held by the Kyiv National Art Museum, the Taras Shevchenko Museums in Kyiv and in Kanev, the Ukrainian Diocesan Museum in Stamford, Connecticut, USA, the State Museum Of Printing and Books at the Lavra in Kyiv, as well as private collections in the USA, Canada, Germany, Ukraine and other countries. He is a a very warm, friendly person who enjoys painting and working to promote Ukrainian culture and history.

Oleksander I. Ivakhnenko is a Laureat of the Shevchenko Award, an Honored Artist of Ukraine, and a member of the Artist's Union.

Oleksander Ivakhnenko's paintings and illustrations for books show very graceful, rounded, warm figures and shapes, far from anything sharp, severe or cold. His paintings are like Ukrainian folk songs, very melodic, telling a story, and touch one in the depth of one's mind and soul. Oleksander is an artist who honors a free Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
