National Union Of Folk Art Masters Of Ukraine

The National Union of Folk Art Masters of Ukraine
is a private, non-profit organization representing over
800 folk art masters from all over Ukraine and in
several countries around the world. The organization
was founded in 1990 to serve Ukrainian folk artists
and to promote Ukrainian folk art.
The National Union of Folk Art Masters has
their headquarters in Kyiv
and have an exhibition hall and small sales display
area at the headquarters. The organization has
a leadership network in every oblast, sponsors
many exhibitions, training seminars, meeting of folk
artists and other such events.
In 1997 the Folk Masters Union started
publishing an outstanding magazine called "Narodne Mystetstvo,"
or Folk Art.
The magazine is in color and contains a large variety
of information and photographs about Ukrainian folk
artists and folk art.

The magazine covers the history of Ukrainian
folk art over the past 200 years, and also features articles
about private and publicly held folk art collections.
The magazine is published in Ukrainian with short
summaries of the articles in English.

One can find articles about
pottery, tapestries, reverse painting on glass, folk paintings on
Ukrainian themes, folk icons, textiles, wood carving, porcelain,
ceramics, graphics, pysanka (Easter eggs), folk toys, embroidery,
coppery, sculpture, and many other aspects of the rich traditions
of Ukrainian folk art.
Orysia Tracz, an internationally
known expert on Ukrainian folk art from Canada, said, "If you have
not yet seen this magazine, get it. It is truly a fine publication
-- contents, illustrations, reproductions, cover a great variety
of subjects in the area of folk arts of all kinds -- in a serious,
well-done manner."
Orysia also stated in a message
to those interested in Ukrainian folk arts, "This is an amazing
publication, absolutely beautiful,the content is excellent,and it is well produced. "
Yevhen Shevchenko is Chairman
of the National Union and editor of the magazine.
As of February, 2007, nineteen issues of the magazine have been
published since the magazine was founded in 1997. ALL NINETEEN ISSUES
OF THE MAGAZINE ARE STILL AVAILABLE. Several of the
early issues though are in very short supply. If one wants a complete set
of
the magazine one should order their set now. The magazine is now
published two times a year.

the magazine are still available. The magazine can be purchased as follows:
The cost of any copy of the magazine is $ 11.00 per issue plus $ 4.00 per
issue for postage and handling costs for a total cost per issue of $ 15.00.
Annual subscriptions to Narodne Mystetstvo are now available. There are
TWO issues of the magazine per year. A yearly subscription to the
magazine is U.S. $18.00 plus $8.00 for shipping and handling costs for a total cost of annual subscription of $26.00.
Subscriptions to Narodne Mystetstvo can be purchased for up to
THREE years at one time, i.e. the next SIX issues of the folk art
magazine. The cost of a TWO year subscription (four issues) would be
US $ 50.00. The cost of a THREE year subscription (six issues), would
be US $ 73.00. The price for annual subscriptions includes all shipping
and handling costs.
There is a special price if one buys all 19 issues at one time as set.
The
price for all 19 issues purchased and mailed as a set is $150.00, which
includes
postage and handling costs.
