The Ukrainian Society for Preservation of Historical and Architectural
Monuments opposes plans to build a hotel between the monuments to
Vladimir the Great and to Magdeburg Law on the Dnieper hills in Kiev.
Deputy chairperson of the society Larisa Skorik informed of this matter
onthe press conference.
According to her, the deputy chairperson of the Kiev State Administration
Ivan Fomenko issued permission for construction, and now the project is
being developed with approval of the chief architect of Kiev Sergei
Babushkin.
The Society for Monuments Preservation is flatly against realization of the
current project capable of changing the view of the historical Dnieper hills
and ensemble of the monuments located there.
As Ukrainian News has reported, Ukraine annually loses nearly 50
architectural monuments due to insufficient financing.
At the same time a state program foreseeing restoration of 56 earlier ruined
architectural monuments has been approved.
