A new book, the ENGLISH-UKRAINIAN DICTIONARY of Basic Economic, Financial and Business Terminology by Rostyslav Sonevytsky, was published in Ternopil, Ukraine (Fall of 2001). The book contains more than 5,600 terms and 800 explanations in its 333 pages.

The new Dictionary was published as a limited edition, hard cover, pocket size book by "ZBRUCH" company in Ternopil, the city where the author of the book, Rostyslav Sonevytsky, was born in 1931. Rostyslav left Ukraine with his family during W.W.II. After living as refugees in displaced persons camps in Germany the family immigrated to the USA in 1950.

Rostyslav Sonevytsky started his college education in the USA and received an MA in economics from Columbia University. He became an economist and worked for IBM in New York City for over 30 years.

The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the resulting independence of Ukraine gave Rostyslav the idea and stimulus for the dictionary. Rostyslav felt such a book was needed as Ukraine moved from a command economy to a market-driven economy in the years after Independence. He worked on the dictionary for several years.

In 1995 the author wrote, "Teachers and students, who were trained in socialist economics, were not exposed to the basic terminology of Western economic theory. Now, with the independence of Ukraine, and with theemerging interest in the construction of a free market economic system, the need for knowledge of terminology of the free market system for Ukrainians is essential."

Mr. Sonevytsky died in May,1995, after completing the work for the dictionary. A few copies of the manuscript were distributed at that time. His wife, Chrystia, was encouraged by many persons to have the manuscript published so the book could be widely distributed to those who could benefit from a specialized dictionary of this type.

His wife has been working on the project and finally this year found a group of talented, young professionals in Ternopil, Ukraine who assisted her in getting the economic and business dictionary finally published.
