Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC)
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
November 14th 2001
Winnipeg - The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) today called
upon all Canadians to mark November 24, 2001 as a day of
Remembrance for the victims of the Famine/Genocide of 1932-33
that caused the deaths of more than 7,000,000 Ukrainians.
The UCC's announcement is in keeping with a Presidential Decree,
issued on November 26, 1998 by Ukraine's President Leonid Kuchma,
designating every fourth Saturday of November as the National Day of
Remembrance for the Famine/Genocide victims of 1932-33.
Commemorative services are being organized across Canada during
the weekend of November 24, 2001.
"On November 24, 2001, Canadians will be joining millions of Ukrainians
throughout the world in commemorating this horrific event in the history of
mankind," said UCC President Eugene Czolij.
