EVENTS DEVOTED TO THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE HOLODOMOR HAVE TAKEN PLACE IN FRANCE AND AUSTRALIA

Events devoted to the 70th anniversary of the Holodomor (great famine) in Ukraine have taken place in France and Australia.

According to the press-service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, on November 24, a two-hours commemorating requiem of 1932-33 Holodomor victims was served in the main church of France - Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral.

Representatives of the Ukrainian governmental delegation headed by Vice-Premier Dmytro Tabachnyk, employees of the Embassy of Ukraine to France, representatives of the political and business circles of the French Republic and thousands people of the Ukrainian community, participated in the mass.

On the eve of it, during November 22-23, the events, devoted to the 70th anniversary of the Ukrainian Holodomor were carried out in Australia. In particular, on November 22, a manifestation took place in the capital of Australia - Canberra, in which nearly 2 thousand representatives of the Ukrainian community, representatives of the Ukrainian embassy, members of the Federal parliament, Foreign and Trade Ministries of Australia, Canberra inhabitants participated.

The participants walked to the memorial of the Holodomor victims in the central part of the city, near the Ukrainian Orthodox church, where speeches were delivered by Diaspora Ukrainian Autokefal Orthodox Church Archbishop Ioann, a spokesman of the Australian Prime-Minister, a senator of the ruling Liberal Party, chairman of the Union of Ukrainian Organizations of Australia S.Romaniv, and others.

The same day, conference "Holodomor in Ukraine - Crime Against Humanity" took place in the Australian National University. Representatives of the National Center of European Investigations, professors of the university, representatives of the Ukrainian embassy and Ukrainian community participated in it.

In addition, an exhibition of stamps and postcards devoted to Holodomor was organized by the Ukrainian community in Melbourne and Adelaide.

On November 23, requiems in memory of Holodomor victims took place in the Ukrainian Orthodox and Greco-Catholic Churches of Canberra.

In line with the resolution on the Ukrainian Holodomor, adopted on October 30 by the Senate of Australia, the legislative Council of the parliament of New Southern Valia State has adopted a resolution, which determined the Holodomor in Ukraine as one of the worst examples of genocide in the history of mankind.
