UNIAN, Kyiv, Ukraine, November 17, 2003
KYIV............A hearing, devoted to the 70th anniversary of the Ukrainian
famine during 1932-33, has taken place in the Chamber of Deputies of the
Czech Republic Parliament with the assistance of the Foreign Affairs
Committee of the Czech parliament, "Ukraine-Czechia" parliamentary group,
other MPs, journalists.
According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry press-service, Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Czech Republic Serhiy
Ustych has delivered the opening address at the meeting. He, in particular,
has emphasized that this tragedy of the Ukrainian nation, organized by the
Stalin regime, has no precedents in the history of mankind. Millions of
innocent victims, who can never be returned - it is our memory, and, at the
same time, the prevention to the succeeding generations of the humanity.
The Ukrainian ambassador has reported to the MPs about the solutions, made
by several world parliaments relating the estimate of the famine of
1932-1933 in Ukraine, and also about the joint statement of Ukraine, Russia,
USA, Canada, several other states, which is to be spread in the nearest
future as an official document of the 58th session of the U.N. General
Assembly in New-York.
The Ukrainian ambassador has underscored that the developments, which
happened 70 years ago, were the consequence of a unique cynical policy of
that-time authorities, a war of the country leadership against a part of its
nation.
Czech parliament Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Vladimir Lashtuvka has
underlined the necessity to give an unbiased estimate to the famine of
1932-1933 in Ukraine.
The participants of the hearing have had an opportunity to get acquainted
with the exhibition of photo-documents, prepared by the Ukrainian embassy,
and to watch a documentary, devoted to this sad data of the Ukrainian
history.
