ISLAMABAD: The Interior Ministry has directed the Capital District Administration to beef up security around Ukrainian diplomats because the embassy received anonymous calls threatening to blow up the embassy and its officials. The ministry has also directed authorities to thoroughly check anyone visiting the embassy.

Mykola Skliarenko, charge d'affaires of the Ukrainian embassy, approached the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he stated that the officials of the embassy received a number of telephone calls in which someone threatened to blow up the embassy and kill Ukrainian diplomats if they did not place pressure on their government to withdraw its forces from Iraq, where they are part of the coalition forces with the US, sources told Daily Times.

The said a Ukrainian diplomat said security was necessary for the embassy because of their country's active participation with the coalition peacekeeping forces in Iraq. Ukrainian diplomats also expressed apprehension that terrorists, sources said, could target citizens, official organisations and various companies functioning in Pakistan. Officials of the secret agencies have been directed to trace the anonymous callers and apprehend them.
