 Established
in 1924, the Poltava Confectionery Plant has successfully carved
itself a niche in the highly competitive world of Ukrainian confectionery.
In 2000, Poltava had an overall market share of approximately 3%,
while producing over 200 types of candies and sweets. Products include
marshmallows, chocolate bars, boxed candies, hard candies, baked
goods, diabetic goods, toffee, and marmalade.
Situated in one of the ecologically cleanest regions
of Ukraine, the plant is located within a few hours of over 60%
of the Ukrainian market. Unlike most Ukrainian confectionery plants,
Poltava works year round without stoppages in production.
Over the past few years the management team at Poltava
has achieved tremendous growth. In 2000, the plant produced nearly
20,000 tons of confectionery products, a substantial increase over
the 7,100 tons produced in 1997. Net Sales were $15.4 million, an
increase of 15% over 1999. Since 1997, net sales has increased by
more than 15% annually.
Poltava
has established a successful network of distribution within Ukraine
and Russia. The plant purchases most ingredients within Ukraine,
significantly reducing costs. With increasing sales and profitability,
Poltava has been able to plan for
the future and the future
needs of the company.
Profits are reinvested back
into the company to maintain the highest possible level of growth
while maintaining profitability and quality. Poltava has the vision
and the practical know-how to become a leading player in the confectionery
industry in the near future.
The Poltava Confectionery Plant expects to operate
at full-capacity in 2001 and has started work on a second plant.
A building is being reconstructed for the plant and equipment has
been purchased for the first processsing line.
The new plant would have a capacity of 60,000 tons
annually, increasing overall capacity to approximately 85,000 tons
annually. The new plant when finished will represent approximately
a $ 4 million USD investment.
Poltava Confectionery employs around 1,000 people
and has an estimated market value of approximately $9 million. (Date
as of May, 2001)

"KYIV...The PoltavaKondyter Candy Factory is planning
to complete construction of a new factory in Potava in 2001 and
launch production some time in 2002 according to the plant's deputy
director, Volodymyr Plaksiy. The plant is being constructed to satisfy
what PoltavaKondyter feels is growing demand for its product on
both the domestic and global markets. Plaksiy stressed that such
products are in greater demand because they are high in both quality
and in price"
"He added the construction is now possible with the entry of the
US investment company SigmaBleyzer that is investing in the Ukrainian
economy via the Sigma Group. SigmaBleyzer's stake in PoltavaKondyter
is currently 90%. The confectionery issued shares at the end of
last year in order to attract an investor. As a result of the US
$ 22 mn issue, the authorized fund of PoltavaKondyter increased
to US 24.82 mn. (UNIAN-Biznes, Jan. 6)"
