KYIV. The McDonald's-Ukrayina company is on track to open six new restaurants in Ukraine, bringing its total investment to US$ 82 million, a Finport.net report says.

According to the company's purchases director Viktor Eidemiller, McDonald's present goal is to bring the share of inputs supplied by Ukrainian producers from 40% in 2001 to 60% this year. This will be done by starting its own production of meat products which are currently imported from Russia.

NOTE: McDonald's-Ukrayina was started and supported by the McDonald's organization in Vienna, Austria. The original plan announced a few years ago was to make an initial investment in Ukraine of $ 100 million and open 100 restaurants. This is one company that has stayed the course and kept moving rapidly ahead in spite of the political, governmental and economic problems faced by private for-profit companies in Ukraine. They jumped into the market and never looked back.

McDonald's has picked great locations, mostly near METRO stops, built very modern facilities and have trained thousands and thousands of young people in sales, marketing and serving customers first and quickly..skills that were severely lacking in Soviet Ukraine. McDonald's have special rooms for birthday parties and they are totally booked every Saturday and Sunday.

Their long run goal is to source everything they use in Ukraine to be sources from within Ukraine that is at all possible.
