LVIV BREWERY
"The Secret Of Excellence"
"They
say that Lviv would not be what it is without Lviv beer. Visitors
to Lviv are eager to sample Lviv Beer as soon as they arrive there."
"The secret of excellence of Lviv beer lies in a
happy combination of high-quality malt, aromatic hops and crystal-clear
and absolutely pure water drawn from an artesian well. The skills
of beer-brewing have been perfected through the centuries. Beer
has been brewed in Galacia since the 15th century. "
"Tradition has it that the original recipes for beer
brewing were borrowed from the local monks. Beer brewed in Lviv
was enjoyed at the royal banquets in Austria-Hungary and in Poland,
and in more recent times at the banquets of the communist party
leaders in the Kremlin. In still more recent times, President of
Ukraine Leonid Kuchma remarked after taking a sip of Lviv beer from
a mug: 'This beer will always taste great.'
"The first brewery in Lviv was opened in 1715. It
is the oldest known brewery in Ukraine, and one of the oldest in
Europe. That is why one of the brands of Lviv beer is called 1715."
"Major changes occurred in the Lviv Brewery in 1999
when the international Baltic Beverages Holding AB Corporation (BBH)
made investments into beer brewing in Lviv. Well-planned BBH investment
policies resulted in the creation of a new production line which
produces 60,000 bottles of beer per hour. The new line went into
operation in October 2000 when the 285th anniversary of the Lviv
brewery was being celebrated. "
"Mr. Christian Ramm-Schmidt, BBH president, said
at the unveiling ceremony: "BBH is a long-term investor. We are
planning to win an ever stronger position for our beer in Halychyna.
We have already created a wide beer distribution network. Lviv beer
has had a good start.'
"The Lviv Brewery enters the new millennium combining
tradition with top quality."

L'VIV BEER RECLAIMING ITS FAME
By. V. Dehtiariov
Eastern Economist Business and Investment Weekly
April 23-29, 2001, Page 21
"L'VIV.....The second stage of L'viv Brewery reconstruction
finished on Apr. 18 (2001). The stage comprised of the introduction
of a new brewing process, a refrigeration and compression department,
reconstruction of the broiler room, installation of a steam broiler
and modernization of the brewing department."
"Baltic Beverages Holding AB purchased a share holding
of 99.3% share in the brewery and is about to purchase the rest
of the shares. The corporation has invested over US $ 20 mn into
the beer brewing industry in L'viv. BBH's Vice President Andres
Erm said that the corporation has hardly received any profit yet--something
like US $ 100,000."
"We are aiming at future prospects,' said Mr. Erm,
'and are not disappointed about the pace of development.' Six months
ago L'viv Brewery completed the first stage of reconstruction. In
particular, it built a new beer bottling shop with an output capacity
of 60,000 bottles per hour, reconstructed the transformer plant
and modernized its laboratories."
"Upon completion of all reconstruction works,' said
Mr. Elm, 'the L'viv Brewery will have among the most state-of-the-art
equipment in Europe and the only one at such a level in Ukraine.'
In 2000, the brewery's production volumne increased by 52% and the
sales volume by 150% compared with 1999.
In 2001, the L'viv Brewery plans to produce 6 mn
dal of beer, thus reaching the record volume of 1985. The estimated
production capacity of the fully reconstructed brewery is 24mn dal
per year.
