James Mace was a distinguished scholar, researcher, journalist and university professor, one of those personalities whose caliber is to be defined by history. This American from Oklahoma devoted his life to exploring Ukrainian history, particularly the Holodomor of 1932-33. He made it his life's mission to prove to the world that this tragedy of the Ukrainian nation was no accident but a monumental crime perpetrated by the Soviet leadership, and that it must be universally recognized as a genocide.
His articles and columns that were published by the newspaper Den' and its English-language weekly digest The Day, served to create a holistic picture of Ukraine's past and present. The passage of time confirmed James Mace's prescience, for he predicted events that transpired after his untimely death in May 2004. In addition to Dr. Mace's publications, this book includes reminisciences of his friends and fellow countrymen in his two motherlands: the U.S., where he was born and educated, and his adoptive Ukraine.
