HUTSUL AND POKUTTIA REGIONS FOLK ART
UKRAINAIN ANTIQUITIES: FOLK ART OF THE HUTSUL
AND POKUTTIA REGIONS IN PRIVATE COLLECTIONS
An Outstanding New Book, Fall 2002

Presented for the first time, in one volume, are treasures of Ukrainian folk art from private collectors in Lviv, Ukraine: icons on glass, carved wooden candelabra, wooden and metal crosses, and clay tiles and plates from past centuries.

As with all Ukrainian folk art, these works exemplify both the practical and the spiritual world of traditional Ukrainian life, with all its rituals and symbolism.

The history of the preservation and rescue of these objects by three waves of Lviv collectors is also given. During Soviet times, collecting from the Ukrainian artists in the Carpathian Mountains and their foothills carried great risk.
