National Competition of Journalistic Publications on the Land Reform Issues "My Land" in Ukraine

Dear Colleagues:

The Center for Land Reform Policy in Ukraine would like to inform about a press-conference to start a National Competition of Journalistic Publications on the Land Reform Issues "My Land" in Ukraine that will be held on January 13, 2003 at the World Bank's office in Ukraine (Lysenka str. 2, Kyiv) at 11.00 a.m.

 

There are to be announced topics of nominations, time framework, procedures for publication submission, etc.

 

Competition is organized by the Center for Land Reform Policy in Ukraine under financial support from International Renaissance Foundation and Eurasia Foundation.

 

The competition is supported by the Cabinet of Ministers, State Committee on Land Resources, Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Parliament of Ukraine, Ukrainian mass media, NGOs and international organizations.

 

The speakers on the press-conference will be: the chairmen of the Ukrainian Parliamentarian Committees, members of the Cabinet of Ministers, top officials of the State Committee for Land Resources and Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences, the World Bank, International Renaissance Foundation, Eurasia Foundation, representatives of sponsor and partner organizations taking part in the project.

 

Sponsors of the nominations are the World Bank, Insurance Company "Lemma", International Law Company "Eurolawyer", "ILC- Ukraine", "ECOMM Co", Agribusiness Development Project of IFC, Ukrainian Agrobusiness Magazine "Agropropozitsiya" etc.

 

Grand prize is provided by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ukraine.

The Center for Land Reform Policy in Ukraine is Preparing a Project of Organizing a National Competition of Journalist Publications on the Land Reform "My Land"

The competition is aimed at:

    attracting attention of the Ukrainian society and journalist community to the issues of the land reform;

    contributing to the development of open and constructive dialogue between state institutions, journalist community and civil society;

    upgrading the high professional skills of journalist covering land reform in Ukraine.


It is planned that the national competition of journalist publications will be accompanied by the following events:

    a series of national and regional seminars for journalists. The leading officials of the relevant state institutions and independant experts will be presentors at the seminars. The goal of the seminars is to increase the knowledge of journalists about land reform, the functions of various state institutions related to its implementation and provide them with professional terminology.

    Publication and dissemination the manual for journalists which will contain comprehensive information on the state institutions responsible of informing the public and mass media on the land reform.

    Development the competition's web-page which will be hosted at the Center's web-site and will serve as a forum for public discussion of the journalist publications and competition progress.


The Project will be implemented under the patronage of the State Committee for the Land Resources of Ukraine. It is expected that the leading experts of the Ministry of Agricultural Policy, the Commission for the Agrarian Policy of the President of Ukraine, parliamentary committees on the issues of the agrarian policy and land relations, freedom of speech and information, the Academy of the Ukrainian media, journalist associations, mass media, Ukrainian and international organizations.

The Center for Land Reform Policy in Ukraine would like to address all interested parties with the request to provide an assistance to the Project and will highly appreciate any proposals regarding the competition jury and nominations. It is expected that the renowned public figures, politicians, journalists, officials and representatives of the international organizations will form the jury.

Organizer: The Center for the Land Reform Policy in Ukraine is the Kyiv city non-governmental organization providing comprehensive information about land reform to the Ukrainian society and acting as a forum for the experts, scholars, think tanks and public organizations involved in the land reform processes.
